On the 13th of May 1917, in the mountain village of Fatima in faraway Portugal, three children - Lucy 9, Jacinta 8, and Francisco 6, were watching over their flock by day. Suddenly, a bright flash of light cut through the skies, then another followed and yet another. A dazzling l...
Today's #Reflection #Catholicreflection #Dailygospel #Gospelreflection #olfaguda “BE A GOOD SHEPHERD”
WHO IS A GOOD SHEPHERD? – A Leader, a guide, a protector and a defender. The duty of a shepherd is to lead the flock or the herd entrusted to him and lead them to a greener pasture. And not to allow them to go astray. During the reign of King of Judah, Samarea the Capital of North had fallen, some of the inhabitants were killed, some were scattered and some taken to slavery. The Kings of Judah did not learn their lessons from the disaster that fell on Samaria due to their disobedience and they failed totally in their work. “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture” (Jer 23:1). Everyone of us here is a shepherd, because there are those you are in-charge in your own capacity. Jesus is “the good Shepherd” (John 10:11). Today, the Lord warns us; if you cannot take care of my flock handed to you, I will take that duty away from you, and do it myself” (Jer 23:4-5) Many of us Priests/Pastors, Doctors, Nurses, Police men/women and the political leaders do not care for the flock entrusted to them, and do not know how to feed the sheep, but know who to milk the sheep. The parents are the chief shepherds. Parents how do you take care of your children and their growth in the way of the Lord and their relationship with their fellow human beings? What do they learn from you? Brethren, now in Christ Jesus you were once far off, have been brought near in the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the diving wall of hostility” (Eph 2:13-18). In the gospel, Mark 6:30-34, says, when the Apostles returned to Jesus, they told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.” (Mark 6:30). Jesus had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things, Mark 6:32-34. Let us therefore be a good/true shepherd to the flock entrusted to us. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of mu hand (John 10:27-28). Jesus came to bring peace to us.
